The technology behind our Surface solutions is adaptable and able to cater for a range of surface mark navigation techniques, including, buried wire, RFID, magnets, 2D codes and tapes.
Surface currently uses a floorcode reading system which utilises a single camera - which can be mounted on a variety of AGV’s. This, in turn, passes over floorcodes on the ground. Once a floorcode is detected, the data which it contains can be used to identify it, if needed, but also the offset within the field of view can be considered to define the exact position and heading of the vehicle.
During operation, floorcodes and marks can become warn and degraded over time. With Nucleus Scene, this is not an issue thanks to built-in intelligence which processes complex codes and can therefore warn the facilities manager and deal with degraded (worn) codes.
Typical Applications: Surface is ideal for well-defined operating zones that are not subject to frequent route/layout changes and involve applications with repetitive and consistent pick and place/store and retrieve locations. Such environments include: Very narrow aisle automated storage and retrieval applications, outdoor container ports and low cost infrastructure tram systems.
